Catherine Tonning-Popowich-Gelli Prints: Mono Printing Without a Press

Learn how to make unique prints with Gelli plates. We will learn about color mixing, how to use found objects to add texture and a variety of other techniques to create your own beautiful prints. Gel plates look and feels like gelatin, but are durable, reusable and store at room temperature. Mono printing on a gel plate is simple and fun. The gratification is immediate, and the prints are too cool! Mono printing with the Gelli Arts printing plate is a great way to enjoy a day of art, creating prints both simple and elaborate with paint, paper, and a few tools. Stamps, stencils, and scrapers, are just a few of the options for creating interesting prints. Gel printing is a way to make amazing prints without the use of an expensive printing press. One of the things I love about printing with the Gelli plate is that there’s no right or wrong way to do it. At the same time, the more you print, the more variety, depth, and interest you create because you become more confidant in the process. With time, you also learn what type of paint and materials work best to create intriguing prints. Just like most things in life, the more you use the Gelli plate, the better you get. There’s always something fun to learn and try.  In this class you will learn about Mono printing without the use of a printing press. We will make lots of prints and papers to use in mixed media art, collage, card making and framed art, just to name a few. We will explore various techniques using textures, stencils, stamps, fabric and found objects.  Day one will be filled with making lots of prints on cardstock, parchment paper, deli paper and freezer paper using found objects, stencils and stamps. We will also explore making our own texture plates and stencils. We will make lots of prints!  Day two we will go over the techniques we liked best and figure out what we can do to improve any that might not be our favorites. We will also explore and create some projects that we can do with all the prints from the previous day. The possibilities are endless, from collages, mixed media art and journals, paper jewelry, finished art, card making, gift wrap and tags just to name a few.   TWO DAY  mono printing class with Catherine Tonning-Popowich.   Catherine will bring Gel plates, brayers, stencils, stamps, texture plates, craft paint, black and white cardstock for everyone’s use.
